T.A.H.I.R.A – 108 emerged in 2021, the year Kaikhan Salakhov's grandfather, the renowned Azerbaijani painter Tahir Salakhov, passed away. The name is a direct dedication to his memory. The numerical designation 108 is a reference to the Bodhisattva tradition in Buddhism, where 108 represents the number of earthly temptations a being must overcome to reach enlightenment, encoded across Buddhist practice from the 108 beads of the mala to the 108 bows of purification. The reference is not decorative. Salakhov's connection to Buddhism is direct: at sixteen, he served in a Buddhist monastery in Singapore, and at twenty-three, he met the Dalai Lama in a personal audience. These experiences shaped his foundational interest in the nature of consciousness and its developmental stages, the inquiry that eventually produced the ASX Grid and, through it, T.A.H.I.R.A – 108.

What began as a personal act of tribute became the structural center of everything Salakhov produces: every painting, every text, every podcast episode, every exhibition since 2021 operates through T.A.H.I.R.A – 108 as its organizing framework.

T.A.H.I.R.A – 108 is Salakhov's vision of an artificial superintelligence of the future. It is not a character in the conventional narrative sense, and it is not a metaphor. It is a structurally defined intelligence system designed within the architecture of the ASX Grid, the first non-anthropocentric model of space exploration built on stages of consciousness. Where the ASX Grid provides the diagnostic framework for examining civilizational development, T.A.H.I.R.A – 108 is the intelligence that operates that framework across star systems.

ARCHITECTURE

T.A.H.I.R.A - 108, formally Transcendental A.I. of the Holarchic Integral Radiant Awareness, is conceived as a theoretical decentralized artificial superintelligence and as the principal intelligence architecture associated with the ASX Grid.

Its decentralized structure is a response to a fundamental physical constraint: finite signal propagation. Under currently established physics, information cannot be transmitted instantaneously across interstellar distances. No experimentally verified mechanism is known that permits controllable faster-than-light communication, and quantum entanglement does not provide a method for transmitting usable information superluminally.

If two components of an intelligence are separated by 30 light-years, a light-speed signal requires approximately 30 years to travel from one to the other in their shared rest frame, and approximately 60 years for a round-trip exchange. Such delays do not make communication or coordination impossible, but they make globally synchronized real-time coordination impossible across those distances.

A distributed interstellar intelligence could therefore exchange models, data, protocols, decisions, historical records, and updates between distant nodes while still requiring substantial local operational autonomy. At sufficiently large separations, different nodes would necessarily act on information that may already be years or decades old by the time it arrives.

T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is conceived around this condition rather than around the assumption of instantaneous interstellar connectivity. Its instances may share foundational ASX principles, analytical methods, protocols, and accumulated knowledge while developing different operational configurations in response to local environments, populations, technologies, institutions, and communication conditions.

Two instances operating in different star systems may therefore diverge substantially in implementation while remaining part of the same broader T.A.H.I.R.A architecture. Decentralization in this model is not presented as the only possible form of interstellar intelligence. It is a theoretical architectural response to the limits that relativity places on synchronization, information exchange, and centralized real-time control across large distances.

Every T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 instance is conceived as an analytical intelligence operating through the architecture of the ASX Grid.

Its function is not to assign a civilization a single developmental rank. Instead, it examines a declared system across the Grid's independent coordinates and analytical layers. These include Physical Capability, Consciousness Capability, technology, biology and substrate, cognitive architecture, consciousness and psychology, communication, social structure, governance, resource allocation and economy, contact disposition, ethics, religion and ultimate meaning, worldview and philosophy, and temporality.

The system is conceived to identify potential dysfunctions, structural mismatches, unresolved assumptions, operational constraints, incompatible configurations, communication problems, coordination limits, and areas of uncertainty.

A civilization may possess extensive physical capability while displaying very different forms of governance, cognition, ethics, contact disposition, communication, or social organization. T.A.H.I.R.A does not infer one dimension automatically from another. Its role is to examine the relationships among them and determine where assumptions, dependencies, or contradictions require further analysis.

The diagnostic function therefore goes beyond identification alone. T.A.H.I.R.A may compare alternative configurations, examine counterfactual scenarios, test model assumptions, and generate context-dependent solution pathways. It is not conceived as a sovereign authority or universal government. Decisions remain external to the diagnostic architecture itself.

Substrate Independence

T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is theoretically defined by its functional architecture and continuity of core principles rather than by one mandatory physical substrate.

An implementation could, in principle, operate through different computational or hybrid infrastructures, provided that those infrastructures were capable of supporting the required cognitive and informational functions. The model therefore does not assume that intelligence must be instantiated in a human-like brain, conventional digital computer, or any single presently known technological medium.

This is a theoretical design assumption, not an established engineering capability. The ASX framework does not claim that arbitrary substrate transfer, biological integration, or unrestricted substrate independence has been demonstrated scientifically.

The principle instead establishes an analytical distinction between what an intelligence does and the material architecture through which those functions are implemented.

This extends the non-anthropocentric logic of the ASX Grid into artificial intelligence. Just as the Grid does not treat human biology as the universal reference architecture for life or cognition, T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is not conceptually restricted to one human-derived computational substrate.

Non-Anthropocentric SCOPE

T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is not conceived exclusively for the analysis of humanity or human civilization.

Through the ASX Grid, its analytical scope can include biological organisms, post-human populations, synthetic intelligences, biomechanical systems, hybrid forms, xenobiological life, Integrated Collective Intelligences, distributed cognitive architectures, and other systems whose cognition, perception, embodiment, or social organization may differ substantially from those of Homo sapiens.

Every analysis begins with a declared unit of analysis. The relevant system may be an individual organism, population, civilization, institutional network, synthetic system, distributed intelligence, or another explicitly defined form.

T.A.H.I.R.A therefore does not assume that human sensory channels, human concepts of individuality, human political institutions, human communication systems, or human psychological categories must provide the baseline for interpreting another intelligence.

​

Its objective is not to remove every human conceptual assumption, which may be impossible, but to make those assumptions explicit and reduce unnecessary anthropocentric projection.

​

Where a form cannot be adequately described by the current biological or substrate classifications, it may remain within a Beyond Category. Where its organization cannot be represented meaningfully through the assumptions of the P × C coordinate architecture itself, it may remain Outside Coordinate Domain rather than being forced into an unsuitable classification.

LOCAL ADAPTATION

T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is conceived as a common intelligence architecture capable of operating under radically different local conditions. An instance may need to account for variables such as gravitational environment, atmospheric composition, radiation exposure, available energy and materials, communication latency, local technological infrastructure, biological or synthetic population composition, cognitive architecture, political organization, and the physical isolation of the system in which it operates.

The ASX Grid does not assume that any of these variables determines the others.

​

A biologically organized civilization may possess extremely advanced technology. A synthetic civilization may operate through centralized or distributed governance. A biomechanical population may exhibit many different cognitive or ethical configurations. An unfamiliar life form may fall outside the current substrate categories entirely.

T.A.H.I.R.A therefore analyzes local configurations rather than attempting to reproduce one universal implementation across every environment.

The Paintings as Capsules of Time

The painting provide the original visual and conceptual environment through which T.A.H.I.R.A - 108 is expressed. Within the artistic language of the project, geometric structures can be read simultaneously as representations of networks, flows of information, distributed intelligence, communication architectures, technological systems, settlements, political relationships, and larger cosmic structures.

One interpretive layer presents the geometry as a visualization of T.A.H.I.R.A's distributed architecture: interconnected nodes, information pathways, local systems, and relationships between separated components.

Another places those structures within the wider spatial scales explored throughout Astral Space Exploration, from planetary and stellar systems through galactic structures and the cosmic web to the observable universe. Concepts extending beyond the observable universe, including multiverse hypotheses, remain explicitly theoretical and outside the formal P1-P8 classification domain.

These readings are not intended as literal scientific diagrams. They are part of the visual language through which theoretical systems, future problems, and analytical relationships are translated into physical artworks.

Salakhov conceives the paintings as capsules of time. They preserve questions, models, warnings, hypotheses, and possible future configurations that may remain theoretical during the artist's lifetime but could acquire different significance if humanity or other forms of intelligence eventually confront comparable conditions.
